MCP for AI assistants
MetaFabric is an MCP server. Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor and VS Code can work with your data directly.
People can ask questions, update records and run migrations from the AI assistant they already use, under their own permissions.
Connecting an assistant#
- 1
Open Connectivity → Assistants and choose the app.
- 2
Sign in and choose which workspaces the app may use.
- 3
Choose its mode: read only, ask before every change, or ask only for risky changes (the default).
The app connects to one address for all your workspaces, or to a workspace's own address:
https://<your-host>/api/mcp
https://<your-host>/api/mcp/w/<workspace-id>The assistant acts as you, and never above the contributor role, so admin work stays in the console. A sign-in lasts up to 30 days. An admin can require approval before a new app can sign in.
What assistants can do#
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Records | Query, count, compare sources, create, update, change by rule, undo |
| Sources | Browse a connected system's objects and records before mapping them |
| Knowledge base | Search, answer, read a section, upload a document |
| Mappings | Start, check and summarize a migration |
| Approvals | See what is waiting, decide items you are allowed to decide |
| Quality | Run an evaluation, verify a certificate, repair findings |
| Console operations | Find and run other console actions your role allows |
The server also offers ready-made prompts for common tasks.
Safety#
- Deletes, risky changes and changes to more than 20 records wait until you confirm them on a MetaFabric page, signed in as yourself. Links expire after an hour, and nothing happens if no one decides. An assistant cannot confirm its own change, and saying yes in chat confirms nothing.
- A retry within 24 hours never applies a change twice.
- Changes made by rule can be undone for 30 days.
- Every call is logged as "person via app". Admins can switch off any app, tool or workspace.
